History

The 4th Caterham Scout Group was first registered in 1930 as 23rd South Croydon. In 1933 it was transferred into Caterham District and renamed 4th Caterham (Dene Preparatory School). The Group closed about 1937.

In 1938 it was re-registered as 4th Caterham and in 1948 it was re-named again as 4th Caterham (Salvation Army). This Group became dormant in 1954. In 1967 it was resurrected as 4th Caterham, but again became dormant in 1970.

In May 2004 it was again resurrected when the 3C's Cub Pack of 3rd Caterham (St John's) Scout Group were granted permission to continue their original plans and form their own Scout Group. The Group held its first Executive meeting on 14 May 2004 where the Executive Committee of the new Group was formed and decisions made as to when the Group would re-register as 4th Caterham (Caterham Christian Centre).

The Group formally re-started on 4 July 2004. We held a special service at Roverdene campsite where all current members of the Pack renewed their promises and were presented with a new 4th Caterham blue & orange scarf.

In January 2005 the new Beaver Colony opened. This was closely followed by our new Scout Troop – five years earlier than expected!
